Getting started
What is Postino.de?
A professional email service with your own storage and no advertising. You can reach your mail through the browser and from any email program, and two-factor authentication is available for your account.
How do I put the Postino.de icon on my phone home screen?
You can place Postino.de on your phone with its own icon, just like an app. Nothing needs to be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play.
IPHONE OR IPAD
1. Open postino.de in Safari.
2. Tap the Share icon at the bottom — a square with an arrow pointing up.
3. Scroll down and choose Add to Home Screen.
4. Tap Add in the top right corner.
ANDROID PHONE
1. Open postino.de in Chrome.
2. Tap the three dots in the top right corner.
3. Choose Install app or Add to Home screen.
4. Confirm the installation.
The icon then appears on your home screen and opens Postino.de directly. Removing the icon does not delete your mailbox or your mail.
How is this different from free services?
We do not analyse the contents of your mail and do not build an advertising profile from it. The subscription fee covers the service, so your data does not have to be the product. You also get direct customer support, and our servers operate within the European Union.
How do I sign up?
Choose the email address and plan you want, enter your name and a recovery email address, then pay by card or PayPal. Your account is ready within minutes of the payment being confirmed.
What information do you ask for?
Your name and a recovery email address. The name is needed for invoicing, and the recovery address so that you can regain access if you forget your password. We do not ask for more.
Why do you need a recovery email address?
It is the only way we can give you access back if you forget your password. We send a confirmation message to it — click the link inside so we know you can actually reach it. Use an address that is not on the postino.de domain.
Mail and settings
Can I use Postino.de for my other email addresses too?
Postino.de is not limited to your own address: you can add Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook or any other provider, once you allow access there. From then on you read and write all of your mail in one place, and you choose which address each message goes out from.
IMAP settings
Username: your full email address. Server: imap.postino.de. Port 143 with STARTTLS — or port 993 with SSL/TLS. Authentication: normal password.
POP3 settings
Username: your full email address. Server: pop3.postino.de. Port 995 with SSL/TLS — or port 110 with STARTTLS. Authentication: normal password. We recommend IMAP instead, because it keeps your mail in sync across devices.
SMTP settings (sending)
Username: your full email address. Server: smtp.postino.de. Port 587 with STARTTLS. Authentication: normal password.
Synchronising calendars (CalDAV)
Open Calendar in webmail, click the edit icon next to your own calendar, then select the Synchronisation tab. Create a separate CalDAV connection. Use this server address in your calendar application: https://postino.de/caldav/ If automatic discovery does not work, copy the Alternative URL shown in webmail. This is a server address, not a browser page: an authentication prompt in a browser is normal. Use the generated CalDAV username and the separate CalDAV password you entered there — not your mailbox login details. The connection uses HTTPS on the standard port 443. If you forget the CalDAV password, delete the connection and create a new one.
Setting up on Android and iPhone
In your phone's mail app choose the "Other" account type rather than the Gmail or iCloud button. Enter your full email address and password, then the IMAP and SMTP details above. If automatic detection fails, choose manual setup.
Setting up in Outlook and Thunderbird
The same IMAP and SMTP details apply as on mobile. In Thunderbird choose manual setup if automatic detection suggests the wrong port.
Can I forward my mail to another address?
Yes, you can set a forwarding address in the settings. Bear in mind that forwarded messages also pass through the receiving provider's spam filter, and some providers treat forwarded mail more strictly.
Account and pricing
What plans are available?
Current plans and prices are on the pricing page. Plans differ in storage and in whether advertising is shown.
How can I pay?
By card or PayPal. The fee is billed annually, and your account stays active for one year from the date of payment.
What happens before my subscription expires?
We send a reminder 22 days before expiry, both to your mailbox and to your recovery address. To renew, click the link in the message or sign in to your account and start the renewal there.
What happens if I do not renew?
The account becomes inactive: you cannot sign in or receive mail. Your messages are not deleted at that point — if you renew within the grace period, everything is restored. The exact grace period is stated in the terms of service.
Can I change plans?
Yes, under Settings → Account and invitations. The new plan takes effect when your current subscription expires — until then you keep what you paid for. Moving to a smaller plan is only possible if your mail fits into it; the page tells you before you buy.
How do I cancel?
Two ways. If you simply do not renew, the account winds down on its own — we remind you several times first. If you want it gone now, you can delete it yourself under Settings → Account and invitations, without contacting support. Deletion is final and cannot be undone, which is why we ask you to confirm it twice.
Security
How do I change my password?
After signing in, under Settings, in the Password section. You will need to sign in again on all your devices after the change.
I forgot my password
Click "Forgot password" on the sign-in page. We send a reset link to your confirmed recovery address. If you do not have a confirmed recovery address, write to ugyfelszolgalat@postino.de.
Is two-factor authentication available?
Yes. You can turn it on in Settings, and it works with any standard authenticator app. Once enabled, you enter a six-digit code alongside your password when signing in. Keep your backup codes somewhere safe.
Which authenticator app can I use?
Any app that supports standard time-based codes (TOTP). Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, Authy, FreeOTP and Aegis Authenticator are all available for Android and iPhone. Password managers such as Bitwarden, 1Password and LastPass can generate the codes too, so you may not need a separate app. Any of them can read the QR code shown during setup.
Would you ever ask for my password by email?
Never. We could not even if we wanted to: your password is not stored in readable form but under strong one-way encryption, from which the original cannot be recovered. If you forget it, a new one can be set — nobody can look up the old one. We never ask for a password by email, phone or chat.
Is the connection encrypted?
Yes. The web interface is available over HTTPS only, and mail programs connect over STARTTLS or SSL/TLS. Encryption of mail exchanged with other providers also depends on their configuration.
Your data
What data do you hold about me?
Your name — required by the payment provider — your recovery email address, your subscription details and your messages. The full list and the legal bases are set out in the privacy policy.
Do you read my email?
No. We do not analyse message content and do not use it for any purpose. Automatic spam filtering is in place, but it works on technical characteristics rather than by interpreting content.
Can I export my mail?
Yes. Using IMAP you can download your entire mailbox into any mail program, and from there back it up or move it to another provider.
How do I have my data deleted?
Under Settings → Account and invitations you can delete your account at any time, without contacting support. Deleting it also removes your messages for good. A few records — invoices, for example — must be retained by law.
Where are your servers?
In the European Union. Your data is not transferred outside the EU, except for the services specifically named in the privacy policy.
Troubleshooting
My mail is not arriving
Check the Spam folder, and check whether a forwarding rule or filter is moving messages elsewhere. If your storage is full, the system cannot accept new mail. If all of that is in order, write to ugyfelszolgalat@postino.de with the sender's address and the time the message was sent.
An important message went to Spam
Drag it into the Inbox — this teaches the system that the sender is trustworthy. You can also add the sender to your contacts.
My storage is full
Delete messages with large attachments, and empty the Trash and Spam folders as well — those count against your storage too. If space is persistently short, move to a larger plan.
I cannot sign in
Check that you are entering your full email address as the username, and that your subscription has not expired. If two-factor authentication is enabled, the code is valid only briefly — request a new one. If none of this helps, write to ugyfelszolgalat@postino.de.
How do I contact you?
At ugyfelszolgalat@postino.de. We reply on working days, usually within 24 hours. For a faster resolution, include your account email address and describe exactly what you are seeing.
